Self Hypnosis Success:
Starts With Your Own Hypnosis Pretalk

by Forbes Robbins Blair

In this article, I'll get straight to the point. I'll explain how you can much more from your self hypnosis session --
after you've purchased the correct hypnosis script or audio. Many people don't realise the importance of this step:
how your success could hinge on what you do afterwards.

OK. Let's look at what you as an experienced self hypnosis user probably already do (you users who are new to
this field can get into this one step at a time, if you wish):

  • You keep your improvement goals to just one goal per session.

  • You make sure the hypnosis script or audio is created by a person or company whose reputation is good. The trust factor is strong that their
product is professional, effective and it will work for most serious users.

  • You have no bad (contraindicative) medical or emotional conditions that might impede your success.

But you're still uncomfortable about some aspects of the self hypnosis. Will it really work for you and your situation. Let me start to inspire more
confidence it really does work.

Mike Anders, one of my hypnotherapy clients, had years of self hypnosis experience dealing with issues like improving self-confidence, quitting
smoking, losing weight, and fearing the loss of sexual arousal. And he was happy with those results. But he contacted me about a really desperate
about a situation he was about to experience.

Mike had a great fear about making an important speech before the directors of his Fortune 500 company. He needed to deal with this because his
career depended on it.

He felt that this problem was so severe and so deeply rooted (going back to his childhood) self hypnosis maybe couldn't work for him. I assured him
that his public speaking fears could be eased and even reversed, but it would require these things:

  • He need a true commitment to discipline himself to follow the daily self hypnosis ritual for a few consecutive days before the event.

  • He needed to educate himself about how the make a good speech so he would be well-prepared (many people are nervous before giving
speeches, but their nerves are strained even more when they are poorly-prepared). This is important too.

  • He needed to look at what the audience wants. Usually they want the speaker to succeed -- especially when the content they present is
valuable. It's not about creating a Vegas show act that glitters with showgirls and an orchestra. Keep it simple and sincere I told him.

  • He needs to empathize with that Inner Child with some compassion -- yes. But he didn't need to linger on the negative aspects of those feelings.

  • He needs to remove the future-sight aspect from his vocabulary and his present actions. In other words, thinking too far in the future about
what might happen wouldn't serve him well. More anxiety would be produced. I suggested he embrace his fear of public speaking and do it
anyway. And I encouraged him that once he accomplishes this, he'll be able to easily accomplish this task in the future and he'd discover even
more self-esteem (which I believe comes from overcoming struggles over a period of time).

All of these "encouragements" or pretalks (to use a client-hypnotherapist term) can be done by the self-hypnosis
user before she or he "pretalks" strongly influence how well everything can go -- or not. That way you'll benefit
even more from your self hypnosis session.

Ask yourself: Did I educate myself about the subject? Am I secure with the self hypnosis product I'm using? Am I
sufficiently disciplined and commited enough?

Obviously self hypnosis removes a great deal of the "willpower" required for most goals. But you have to get
involved in your treatment too. There's an old saying in hypnosis: it's 50% practicioner and 50% client.

By the way, Mike Anders' public-speaking hypnosis inductions and suggestions went so smoothly he reported
that after that first self hypnosis session he felt much more confident he could succeed with that upcoming
speech. One week later I got this email from Mike:

"The speech had gone so well his colleagues and boss were astonished. I now comfortable and smooth enough
to speak in front of a large of small group. I feel remarkable thanks to the custom self hypnosis script you created
and that pre-talk you gave me. I'm now un-nervous about public speaking thanks to you, Forbes. Thanks to you."

Today Mike gives business seminars for his company all over the country!

And just think, it all started with that good first self hypnosis pretalk....
